The Dream of the Sea Dragon Palace
Keelung Ciao Art Festival · A Day by the Sea
Many Indonesian fishermen work in Keelung’s harbor, yet their lives are rarely seen. We went into the port for field research, talked with them, and recorded the songs they sing from home. In the end, an old fishing boat became the Dragon King’s palace, glowing with neon and reflections, its captain’s cabin filled with the fishermen’s voices: songs of a distant home, sung on a foreign sea.
Challenge
Bring the hidden lives of Keelung’s migrant fishermen into public view.
Strategy
Field research at the harbor: we interviewed Indonesian fishermen and recorded them singing songs from home.
Solution
An old fishing boat becomes the Dragon King’s palace, with neon, reflections and the fishermen’s voices filling the captain’s cabin.

基隆港邊有許多印尼漁工，他們的日常鮮少被看見。我們走進港口做田野調查，和他們聊天，錄下他們唱的家鄉歌。最後，一艘老漁船化身龍王的宮殿，霓虹與倒影閃爍，船長室裡迴盪著漁工的歌聲：在異鄉的海上，唱著遠方的家。
